President's Report

(from Jersey Coast Anglers Association January 2022 Newsletter)

We had our Sportsperson of the Year dinner on November 14th at Yesterday’s Family Restaurant in Bayville and it was a very nice event that all of us enjoyed! What was so enjoyable was our being able to see each other again, face-to-face, instead of by ZOOM. Don’t get me wrong, ZOOM has its advantages but you just don’t get the chance to really talk to each other and have a few laughs and handshakes. We had about 114 people in attendance.

There were a lot of door prizes given away and a huge Tricky Tray with plenty of prizes to win. The Fish Hawks nominated Tony Guadagnino, (called Mr. G by his club) to receive our Sportsperson of the Year Award and Tim Brennan for our Youth Education Award. Greg Kucharewski, who heads up JCAA’s Youth Education efforts, nominated Tim to receive his award. I read the write-ups nominating them for their awards and from what I read, both of these men really deserved recognition for their efforts to promote our fisheries!

There was plenty of food to eat that included good appetizers, salad, soup, pasta, unlimited beer and wine, choice of steak, fish or chicken for our entrees and coffee, tea and dessert. Nobody went away hungry with all of that food to eat!

This dinner did not happen by magic, but was done with the hard work by a number of people that included Don Marantz and his brother Al who set up the tricky trays, door prizes and sold 50/50 tickets. Our treasurer, Doug Tegeder, handled the financial part of the dinner. Mark Taylor did his usual fine job as our MC to keep this dinner moving and calling out the winning tickets for our prizes. Greg Kuchareski organized the Youth Education Award presentation. A special recognition goes to Paul Haertel who spent a lot of his time searching for a venue that was available to have this function and at a reasonable cost. This was a challenge since many places were booked because of the backlog of weddings and other events caused by COVID-19. Of course, I could not overlook Paul’s wife, Linda, who also worked on the Tricky Tray prizes. I hope that I am not missing anybody!

This was an event that everybody seemed happy to meet friends that they have not seen for a long time. Because of COVID, we were hesitant to even have this dinner, but I am so glad that we made the decision to have it since it brought us together again.

Have a Merry Christmas and a Healthy New Year & Great Fishing for 2022!

End of the Year Letter Asking for Donations

Dear JCAA Supporter,

The JCAA raises its funds primarily through its many events such as its Annual Fluke Tournament, the Sportsperson of the Year Dinner, selling its raffle tickets at shows like the Salt Water Expo in Edison and other venues.

Because of COVID-19, the JCAA had to reluctantly cancel its Annual Fluke Tournament during 2020 & 2021. The trade shows were also canceled during 2020 & 2021 since the public was scared of contracting this virus with the many people who attend them.

In short, money is going out, but money is not going into JCAA’s treasury like it used to that pays bills like office rental space, newsletters, mailings and other expenses to keep an association like the JCAA in business. We are also spending on our Youth Education Program and Veterans Programs. While the JCAA is comprised of all volunteers, we do have one paid manager to handle the necessary administration details of the JCAA such as phone calls, printing of newsletters, etc.

COVID-19 is still threatening the ability of the JCAA to continue its efforts to protect the fishing rights of all of us anglers, the environment and the other programs we run. Please consider providing a donation to the JCAA. You also benefit since your donation may be used to reduce your 2021 tax assessment. The JCAA is a 501C3 organization and donations that are given to it are possibly eligible for tax deduction purposes.

Please make your check out to the Jersey Coast Anglers Association and mail it to JCAA, 1594 Lakewood Rd, Suite 13, Toms River, NJ 08755.

Again, thank you so much for your continued support and we certainly appreciate it!
