(from Jersey Coast Anglers Association December 2018 Newsletter)

The December JCAA General Meeting will be cancelled due to it falling on December 25th this year. Everyone enjoy the Christmas Season and be safe throughout the holiday season.

On November 11th JCAA held its Annual Sportsperson of the Year Dinner. There were just under 150 people in attendance. Congratulations to the 2018 Sportsperson of the Year, Arnie Ulrich, for receiving this prestigious award. He is a very active member of the Hudson River Fisherman’s Association and his fishing community. The JCAA Youth Education Award was also presented to two well-deserving individuals, Mike and Debbie Bennett of Boating Education and Rescue (B.E.A.R). Congratulations to them and continue to do the great work they do. I would like to thank Co-Chairs Dan Miller and Paul Turi for coordinating this event. As I said many times before, there is just not one person that can run a great event. There was a group of amazing individuals that work very hard behind the scenes. If I miss someone I am apologizing in advance. The group was Dan Miller, Heather Miller, Paul Turi, Paul Haertel, Linda Haertel, Don Marantz, Al Marantz, Tom Fote, Bill Browne, and Frank Richetti.

I hope ever member in each of the clubs and individual fishermen are getting more involved and staying aware of all the things that are going on which affects the recreational community.

At the JCAA September 25th meeting, we discussed and voted on a letter in strongly recommending Dr. Patrick Donnelly for the open NJ Marine Fisheries Council position. If your rep was at the meeting he received copies to bring back to his club. Each club should write a letter of support and recommending Dr. Patrick Donnelly too. The letters should be sent to Governor Phil Murphy’s office.

The JCAA Annual Super 50/50 Raffle is in full swing. Chairman Don Marantz will be handling the tickets this year so contact him for tickets or pick them up at JCAA Meetings. His contact information is 908-347-1434 or the JCAA Office 732-506-6565 and leave a message.

It’s not too early to think about helping JCAA at the upcoming shows. We will have a booth at upcoming shows and we will be looking for volunteers. Contact me at and in the subject area put "Show Volunteer". Our presence at the shows is important to inform the general public that is part of the recreational community that has no idea what is going on. Listed below are the Shows JCAA will be a part of, so mark your calendars. These shows are a must not to miss. See you there!!

If you would like me to speak at your club, please send an email to and in the subject put “Speak at Club”.

Remember the December JCAA General Meeting is cancelled so it is important you attend the November meeting.

The January 29th JCAA meeting is at 385 Herbertsville Road, Brick NJ, 08724

Remember, JCAA is always here for you, but we need more people to get involved.
